A seemingly ordinary comedy, but yet… Clovis Cornillac certainly did not imagine for a single second that the film Mr. Mayor, directed by Karine Blanc and Michel Tavares and released in theaters on November 1, 2023, would arouse such anger. Between the criticisms and the racist insults received, the 55-year-old actor expressed his perplexity during an interview with Bruno Guillon. Guest of Happy Sunday show this Sunday, November 5 on RTLthe actor still does not understand why a “hate raid” was launched against the feature film, especially since it is the first time that he finds himself in such a situation.
“It’s surprising that this had never happened to me. And since I’m not a person who is present on social networks and on the Internet, I didn’t know that there was such hostility”, he confided to Bruno Guillon. This hatred escapes him, especially since he believes that no element of the film justifies such reactions. As a reminder, Mr. Mayor tells the story of a village mayor who manages to save businesses and the school by welcoming single mothers.

A misunderstood hatred
However, a month before the film was released in theaters, a raid orchestrated by fake accounts and bots was launched on the YouTube page that had published the trailer. The comments were exclusively hateful, most of them racist. The team then decided to remove the trailer altogether, which helped to calm the situation… which unfortunately started again with a vengeance when the film was released in theaters.
