Five other people were injured, he added.

The powerful autumn storm Ciaran which hits part of Western Europe has left another person dead in France and caused significant disruption.

In Spain, many regions are subject to weather alerts due to very strong winds. The northwest of the country is the most affected with wind gusts exceeding 150 km/hour on the Atlantic coast and waves reaching 8 or 9 meters.

The government called on Spaniards to “be very careful on the road and limit their travel” in a message on X.

In total in the country, nearly 50 flights had to be canceled, including 13 in Bilbao in the Basque Country region (north), according to Spanish airport manager Aena. Madrid or Barcelona airports were also affected by these cancellations.

The storm also led to the interruption of rail traffic on Thursday, particularly on certain lines in Galicia (northwest).
