SNCF condemned on appeal to compensate 119 former railway workers for prejudice of anxiety

SNCF was condemned last week by the Paris Court of Appeal to compensate 119 former railway workers because of their exposure to asbestos at their workplace, we learned Tuesday, December 21 from their lawyer. The court ordered the SNCF to pay 10,000 euros in damages “in compensation for the prejudice of anxiety” to each of these 119 former employees, “all retired now”lawyer Xavier Robin told AFP, confirming information from the Norman media Le Poulpe and the SUD-Rail union.

There are “119 favorable and identical decisions”, in “similar files”, and “25 unfavorable judgments” for files that did not have “not sufficiently substantiated with testimonies from relatives or colleagues”, explained the lawyer. These former railway workers worked “mainly for maintenance, in workshops”, he clarified. This procedure had been launched “in 2013 before the industrial tribunal”, he added. Asked, the SNCF replied that it would not do “no comments on this topic”.
