Inclusive writing: a bill to ban it adopted by Senators – (France 2)
Monday October 30, Senators adopted a text in favor of banning inclusive writing. What about it?
In the middle of a sentence or a word, it is a small point that sometimes hinders reading. Praised by some and rejected by others, inclusive writing, supposed to work for equality, is the subject of debate. “If we put it in place from one young age, in the end, it’s not that complicated”estimates a young woman. A man, on the other hand, judges that “it’s an additional complication”. In the sights of its detractors, two practices: the midpoint and neologisms.
“Unpronounceable writing”
The Senators wanted to ban them by voting, Monday, October 30, on a text presented by the right, provoking lively debates. According to Bruno Retailleaupresident of the group LR, “it’s unpronounceable writing” And “indecipherable”. The text wants to ban inclusive writing from administrative documents, employment contracts or even instructions for use. Some communities already use it in their communication, such as the Seine-Saint-Denis department. The text must still be adopted by the National Assembly, but it is not yet included on the agenda.
