Celebrate 10 years on Laurier Avenue

To highlight their 10e anniversary, Desloups and Manik Fashion are set up on chic avenue Laurier until December. Nestled in the small premises formerly occupied by the Argent Tonic jewelry store, the Manik Fashion pop-up boutique presents the creations of designer and artist Manika Gaudet, coats by Desloups, as well as some products from Quebec brands Nemrac, Delinor and Créations Gama.

Having studied together at the Fashion School of the Notre-Dame-de-Foy Campus, Manika Gaudet and Isabelle Deslauriers, founder of Desloups, became friends, which resulted in various collaborations, including this one, for make their products known to customers on Laurier Avenue West.

“On all the major avenues, we see how local shops and local products are disappearing because rents are so expensive,” laments Manika Gaudet. For small designers, these are significant sums to support during sometimes very slow periods. » “What’s fun about pop-ups is that it allows you to be in the right place at the right time,” continues Isabelle Deslauriers.

The two designers, who left jobs in the fashion industry to launch their brands, talk about adaptation as the key to sustainability. Two years ago, Isabelle Deslauriers expanded its range of coats by adding parkas. From three styles originally, its parka offering has doubled. She also continues to focus on the chic lined wool coats which are the basis of her brand. “The DNA of my company is not to make big puffers. I leave that to others. I want to make close-fitting, fitted coats. »

The identity of Manik Fashion comes through the painting on clothes created by Manika Gaudet. Each season, the designer and stylist offers a ready-to-wear collection, in cuts that can suit different silhouettes. Not all of her clothes are made in Quebec, but she aspires to be. Manika brightens up some of the pieces of acrylic paint with a textile base, resistant to washing. The other part remains a blank canvas, to be personalized according to the customers’ tastes. “I go the opposite of mass companies where you bring everyone into the same trends, I like to bring people towards their own essence,” she says. Customers can also bring their own clothes to transform them. Goodbye, black jacket without personality!

Bright colors and pretty prints, that’s the secret of the luxurious Princess & Dragon scarves. The Montreal designer and founder of the France Dechberry brand believes that the scarf is more than just an accessory because it truly changes our look. The new collection is made up of soft scarves made from natural materials, merino wool, cotton, silk and linen. The colors are bright and contrasting, red, green, yellow, pink and orange, which are good for the complexion. And the very dynamic geometric patterns add style.

Gentle care for older children

Children with delicate and sensitive skin now have products specially designed for them at Aveeno, with the new Kids range. The lightly scented face and body cleanser contains the same nourishing and popular ingredients in the Aveeno Baby range, based on natural oats. Gentle on the eyes, this liquid soap does not dry out the skin, in addition to being hypoallergenic and free of parabens, phthalates and other preservatives. For extra protection (very useful at this time of year), the face and body gel cream was found to be moisturizing without being greasy – ideal, therefore, for children who don’t like the feeling of a cream on their skin!
