Time change: one hour more sleep on the night of October 28 to 29 – (France 2)
On the night of Saturday October 28 to Sunday October 29, at 3 a.m. it will be 2 a.m.: we switch to winter time.
Tonight, time for the time change. If the gesture has become almost a habit for the French, it is still difficult to know in which direction the hands should be turned. “I don’t know if we go forward or back an hour”, asks a man. The clock will go back 60 minutes to switch to winter time. A new rhythm adopted with more or less ease. “It’s annoying for everyone, because you have to change the time on all the electrical things in the house, the ovens, the things”explains a woman.
A measure that was supposed to be provisional
Changing the time is a measure introduced by Valéry Giscard d’Estaing. The measure was to be temporary and allow energy savings by adapting the days to natural sunshine. Gains which represent only 0.07% of the electricity consumed in France in one year.
