Take out your gloves: a cold front will bring the temperature below seasonal norms this Sunday. A few flakes could even be seen in several regions of Quebec, or even more in mountainous terrain.
Autumn as we know it returns this Sunday. A cold front and high pressure began to bring temperatures below seasonal norms midday Saturday. In Montreal, for example, while the mercury was expected to reach 19°C on Saturday, it should not exceed 7°C this Sunday and 6°C on Monday.
The scenario is similar in different regions of the province. On the Quebec side, the temperature forecast for Saturday was 17°C, but 4°C this Sunday. The temperature began to drop in the middle of the day on Saturday, and the wind changed direction, explains Dominic Martel, meteorologist with Environment Canada.
Towards low accumulations?
With the cold, the first snowflakes of the season should appear in the province this Sunday evening. In fact, a low pressure system will affect most regions of the province at the end of the day.
If we mainly expect rain, it could turn into wet snow in places, such as Quebec, Trois-Rivières or Drummondville.
Light accumulations of snow could even be observed in the mountainous regions of the province, such as the Laurentians, Charlevoix or Estrie. The low pressure system will then move eastward. Gaspésie and the North Shore could in turn see a few snowflakes arriving at the start of the week.
Quebec will experience a period of calm at the start of the week before the arrival of a new low pressure system on Thursday or Friday.
