(Montreal) The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) launched an investigation on Saturday into an intervention involving the Sûreté du Québec in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region.
The BEI was called to intervene a little after four a.m. on Saturday, at the request of the Sûreté du Québec.
The police had deployed patrol officers three hours earlier in the Chicoutimi sector, where a race between several vehicles was reported by two citizens.
The police then located the vehicle behind the race in the Saint-Bruno sector and activated their flashing lights before turning around to pursue it.
A few seconds later, the motorist targeted by the intervention lost control of his vehicle and left the road which caused him serious injuries.
The individual, whose age was not specified, was then taken to a hospital center where his condition “is currently considered critical”, indicates a press release from the BEI, which assigned five investigators to this case.
Given the context of the intervention, the BEI entrusted the Police Department of the City of Montreal with the task of investigating the criminal acts potentially committed during the night and which led to the intervention of the Sûreté du Québec.
