(Newark) Erik Haula hit the target twice and the New Jersey Devils got the better of the Buffalo Sabers by a score of 5-4 on Friday night.
Haula broke the tie at 14:17 of the third period, putting the Devils ahead for good. He also scored a shorthanded goal earlier in the game.
Alexander Holtz, Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt also scored for the Devils, who earned their third victory in their last four outings.
Luke Hughes set up two Devils goals while Vitek Vanecek made 23 saves.
Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin, Dylan Cozens and JJ Peterka responded for the Sabres, who slipped to 3-6-2 in their last 11 meetings against the Devils.
The Sabres, who had won two of their last three games, lost the services of goaltender Eric Comrie. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen came on in relief and allowed three goals on 21 shots.
