Many Israelis fear for their safety since the Hamas attack on October 7. In the West Bank, encouraged by the Jewish state, settlers are training in the use of weapons in self-defense centers.
Since October 7, an Israeli self-defense training center, located in the West Bank, has been full. Six days a week, settlers from Gush Etzion, one of the largest Jewish colonies in this territory, populated mainly by Palestinians, train there. Many of the trainees had never handled a weapon before. “I live in the woods, and we are surrounded by Arab villages. My husband was drafted into the army, and I’m home alone with the kids“, confides a resident.
The Minister of National Security arms residents for free
After the Hamas attacks, the Israeli Minister of National Security announced the free distribution of 10,000 firearms to voluntary settlers, as well as the relaxation of the rules on permits to carry weapons. “Like me, many people have understood that there may come a time when there will be no one left to help them. Neither police nor army“, explains a settler. Many Israelis and Palestinians today fear that the situation is getting out of control.
