220 people are currently being held by Hamas in Gaza. Present on the 19/20 info set, Lucile Marbeau, spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross, discusses the role of the organization in this specific case.
After the Hamas attack on October 7, nine French people are still missing. They could be among the 220 hostages held by the terrorist organization in Gaza. On the 19/20 info set, Lucile Marbeau, spokesperson for the International Committee of the Red Cross, indicates: “This is a priority file for the International Committee of the Red Cross. The committee is in a special position as a neutral intermediary to engage with all parties.”
“Securing the transport” of hostages
The aim of the ICRC is to “facilitate releases” and have access “to all the hostages to know their state of health”. Lucile Marbeau says the ICRC speaks directly to Hamas “since a long time”. “We act once there has been an agreement between the parties. We intervene as a neutral intermediary to secure the transport of people so that they can reunite with their families”, explains the spokesperson. According to her, the first two releases are a good sign.
