REPLAY. Elisabeth Borne, Mathilde Panot, Marine Le Pen… Relive the debates in the National Assembly on the war between Israel and Hamas

The speeches followed one another in the National Assembly. “Those who refuse to qualify Hamas as a terrorist group are mistaken. It is obvious that Hamas is a terrorist group”estimated the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna. “Madame Panot, we would like to hear you say the right words”, added the boss of the Quai d’Orsay. Shortly before, the leader of La France insoumise had denounced “a deeply racist worldview that legitimizes massacre” Palestinians.

The government supports its position. “Not all Palestinians are Hamas,” for her part hammered Elisabeth Borne, calling for a “humanitarian truce which allows safe and immediate access” essential goods in Gaza. She further considered that “minimising, justifying or even exonerating terrorism means accepting that it will strike again tomorrow, in Israel, in France or anywhere else”.

Controversy between Yaël Braun-Pivet and Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The debate took place the day after a trip to Israel by the President of the National Assembly, during which she affirmed that nothing should “to prevent” the country “to defend oneself”. On the social network X, Jean-Luc Mélenchon accused Yaël Braun-Pivet of “camping in Tel Aviv to encourage the massacre” in Gaza. An attack condemned by many elected officials, from the majority, from LR, from the RN and even from the PS.

The head of state visits Israel on Tuesday. Emmanuel Macron is due to meet the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. On France 2, government spokesperson Olivier Véran did not rule out Emmanuel Macron meeting other leaders in the region, but referred to the Elysée “who will be required to communicate”.
