Launched in 2004, the show “Love is in the meadow” is still appreciated by the French on M6. And after 18 seasons, the enthusiasm is still there as the farmers can be endearing and the love stories are each more beautiful than the last.
Among the key candidates for the 2023 edition, we find Patrice, a 39-year-old farmer from Normandy who has never been in a relationship and who has just experienced his first emotions with his suitor-turned-partner, Justine. “I have the feeling of being loved and this is the first time that this has happened to me in my life” the farmer rejoiced recently, happy to have finally found a woman to live alongside him.
If Justine quickly settled in on Patrice’s farm, she also very quickly showed a certain form of nastiness towards her new darling. Enough to allow viewers to criticize and insult the young woman on social networks. Faced with this wave of hatred, production has also sounded the alarm.
Justine victim of grossophobia: production steps up to the plate
During the broadcast, we follow the farmers and the suitors on a case-by-case basis. (…) Justine is very criticized for her weight, she suffers a lot of fatphobia during the broadcast of the episodes. She doesn’t take it very well. We are hyper vigilant about this. We are with her to support her, to allow her to take a step back” said Gabriella Mathler, one of the show’s producers.
If a psychologist is made available to farmers and suitors before, during and after the broadcast, the production also ensures the lasting well-being of the protagonists. “We are in touch with them and we always will be. It’s not because a season ends for us that we don’t get news about their relationship, their story. We have a team that still manages the participants of 18 seasons of ‘Love is in the Meadow’ we learn.
