After the passage of Hurricane Tammy, Guadeloupe under rain and floods

Confined for a few hours on Saturday October 21 during the passage of Hurricane Tammy, Guadeloupe is not done with the bad weather. Heavy rains fell on the archipelago on Sunday, swelling rivers which burst their banks and caused flooding. The authorities issued a “red” alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms at 6 a.m. (noon in Paris). The level was lowered to “orange” at noon (6 p.m. in Paris).

“Showers and rain are very frequent, very stormy and long-lasting even if the latter tends over the hours to lose somewhat in intensity before resuming during the next night”according to Météo-France, which forecasts accumulations of “250 to 350 mm, or even more”.

The passage of the hurricane caused significant material damage. For several hours on Saturday, Guadeloupe was placed on “purple” alert, the maximum threshold of vigilance, leading to the confinement of residents.

In Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin, the prefecture announces on (ex-Twitter) having lifted the red cyclone vigilance, “taking into account the evolution of the situation”. LThe two islands are on yellow alert for violent winds, yellow for waves-submersion and orange for heavy rain and storms.
