Two investigations have been opened into suspicions of sexual assault and rape involving teachers at the famous L’Atelier de Sèvres art school in Paris, the Paris prosecutor’s office reported on Monday, December 20, confirming information from Mediapart (paid item). “An investigation was opened into the counts of sexual harassment and sexual assault in August 2019” and the investigations were entrusted to the 3rd district of judicial police (DPJ), specified the prosecution, requested by AFP. Another investigation, entrusted to the 1st DPJ, “of the rape count was opened in April 2021”, added the prosecution, specifying that the two investigations were “ongoing”.
According to Mediapart, the private school launched an investigation in April and May 2019 “after the departure, in 2018, of the then management of L’Atelier de Sèvres” and collected “the testimonies of ten students”. Five teachers were laid off, then four expelled from school in July 2019 for “serious misconduct”, according to the investigative media. Three of them have initiated industrial proceedings, it is stressed. In a statement sent to AFP, the current director of the private establishment, Yann Fabès, confirmed that an internal investigation had been carried out in 2019, that the facts had been reported to justice and “the teachers involved” dismissed.
