In Reunion, tourism professionals hope to do well during these end-of-year celebrations. Activity has been resuming for three months, but this recovery is fragile, hoteliers have no visibility over the month of January. In 2021, attendance was divided by three compared to 2019.

In the western Indian Ocean, Reunion offers a diversity of unique landscapes, between its emerald green lagoons, its mountain ranges and its volcanic region, like a lunar desert. Assets for tourism, a sector hard hit last year by the Covid. But for three months the activity has picked up despite a still fragile recovery.

In 2020, a hotel on the island lost more than 50% of its turnover. The situation is improving, for as much he is difficult to project. “We had a good recovery from the end of September until now, but it’s a day-to-day management, we can have a cascade of cancellations in one day”, deplores Claudette Naguin-Coupin, commercial director of Relais de l”Hermitage in Saint-Gilles (Isle Of the reunion). Reunion Island hopes to find its tourists before the health crisis. But beyond the Covid, the island now intends to diversify the origin of its visitors, as nearly 85% of them come from Metropolitan France.
