Blue Jackets beat Flames

(Columbus) Justin Danforth had a goal and an assist, reserve goaltender Spencer Martin stopped 36 shots for his first victory in almost a year, and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 Friday night.

Sean Kuraly and Zach Werenski also scored for the Blue Jackets, who bounced back from a 4-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Monday.

Elias Lindholm scored the only goal for the Flames while goaltender Jacob Markstrom blocked 23 pucks.

After receiving a pass from Danforth, Kuraly scored the first goal of the game, at 6:29 of the second period, thanks to a shot from the right faceoff circle that passed under the arm of the Flames goaltender.

For Kuraly, it was his first goal of the season and the 50the of her career.

Danforth doubled the Blue Jackets’ lead at 8:54 of the third period. As a result, he had his first career NHL game with at least two points.

Lindholm responded less than two minutes later, shorthanded.

Werenski sealed the outcome of the match by scoring into an empty net.
