To celebrate the anniversary of this famous steam pressure cooker, two ministers, Roland Lescure, for industry, and Christophe Béchu, for ecological transition, are traveling, on Friday October 20, to Burgundy to the suburb of Dijon, in Lorsgey, precisely, in the factory where these pressure cookers are still manufactured. The site still produces 800,000 each year.
It was in Lorsgey, in 1953, that a small company, the very young Burgundy stamping company, SEB, now SEB, filed the patent for the famous pressure cooker whose advantage was to reduce cooking times. by two or more. It quickly becomes essential for our grandmothers and mothers. Its ambassador today is one of the stars of the kitchen: chef Cyril Lignac. Over the past 50 years, 75 million pressure cookers have been sold.
Its specificity is that it lasts, it is passed down almost from generation to generation. Each model is repairable for 15 years, because SEB has long advocated “repair rather than throw away”. Moreover, Christophe Béchu will announce changes to the repair bonus, put in place by the government, this boost which aims to encourage the French to keep their objects longer by having them repaired.

SEB has a dozen factories in France
This pressure cooker is above all the symbol of SEB’s success. The small Burgundy company has become a global giant with more than thirty brands such as Calor, Tefal, Moulinex, Rowenta, Lagostina. Today, Seb has 800 million euros in turnover, 33,000 employees worldwide, including 6,000 in France.
Despite Chinese competition, which cuts prices, SEB maintains a dozen factories all over France: irons manufactured in Pont-Évêque in the Rhône, vacuum cleaners in Vernon in the Eure, coffee makers in Mayenne. SEB is seeking to relocate and further secure its supply chain, particularly since Covid. In Saint Lô, in Manche, the group has just created an electronic card production site, which is necessary to manufacture its coffee machines while reducing its dependence on Asian electronic components.
