(Ottawa) Millions of seniors across the country will see their retirement income decline if Alberta withdraws from the Canada Pension Plan, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warns. He sent a letter to his Alberta counterpart Danielle Smith on Wednesday to advise her that Ottawa would do “everything possible” to ensure that the regime remains intact.
“Removing Albertans from the Canada Pension Plan would expose millions of Canadians to greater volatility and deprive them of the certainty and stability that entire generations have enjoyed,” he writes.
Alberta is considering adopting the Quebec model to create its own pension plan. Danielle Smith launched consultations on this subject a few weeks ago.
