Devon Toews stays in Colorado for the long haul

Colorado Avalanche management made sure to retain the services of defenseman Devon Toews for possibly the rest of his career by granting him a seven-year contract extension on Friday.

According to some sources, including Sportsnet hockey expert Elliotte Friedman, the average annual value of the deal is $7.25 million, for a total of $50.75 million. This will therefore end in 2030-2031. This year, the 29-year-old skater completes a four-year, $16.4 million pact; he could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Acquired from the New York Islanders for two draft picks in October 2020, Toews has maintained an overall differential of +122 since arriving in Denver, the best in the National League. In three years in Colorado, he recorded 139 points, including 29 goals, in 200 regular season games, helping the club win the Stanley Cup in 2022.

During the last campaign, the left-handed shooter amassed 50 points in 80 outings, presenting a record of +39. This statistic was somewhat lower than that of the previous calendar (+52).
