In certain communities in Israel close to Gaza, orders were given to evacuate residents, such as in Sderot, located only 580 meters from the strip.

In Sderot (Israel), the streets are deserted. Suddenly, a mortar attack from the Palestinian enclave hits the city. The few civilians still present there are worried about this danger. Israeli soldiers move in with civilians, taking up residence on rooftops with a view of Gaza. “They do whatever they want here, it’s their home, the house is open to them, there is food”, says a house owner who welcomed soldiers.

Civilians forced to flee

Some residents do not want to leave their homes, despite the order given to evacuate. An old lady says she has nowhere to go, she wants to stay no matter what. However, the city’s mayor believes that the Israeli government is not capable of protecting its population, which is why he advised the 26,000 residents of Sderot to leave. At the entrance to the city, hundreds of tanks are deployed.
