The prefecture of Gers gives this Monday some details after the discovery of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) type H5N1, in a farm of ducks ready to force-feed in Manciet, between Eauze and Nogaro. This is the first poultry outbreak detected in the southwest since the epizootic last winter.
Seven other depopulated farms
The ducks on this farm have all been slaughtered and the farm disinfected. A three-kilometer protection zone around the fireplace, and a 10 km surveillance zone have been established. The movement of poultry is prohibited in these areas where strict sanitary measures must be observed.
The prefecture ordered “preventive depopulation”, understand the slaughter of animals, in two other farms in the Gers, in epidemiological connection with the outbreak. Five other palmiped farms located less than three kilometers from this farm will also have to be emptied as a precaution.
It’s about 8th outbreak in breeding in France, all the others having been spotted in the Nord department. In addition, cases in wildlife were detected in the Aude last week, a dozen in all throughout France. In the backyards also, three cases of avian flu are currently recorded in France.
In Europe, there are nearly 400 outbreaks in breeding and 700 cases in wildlife.
