The beautiful mirage | The duty

The holiday season is a mirage. The perfect family clan, the jovial and harmonious gatherings, the exquisite meals, the abundance of gifts. The grandparents moved. The satisfied guests. Children fulfilled. The sumptuous illuminated tree. Food baskets distributed to the poorest. And the grumpy at heart that grows larger listening to traditional songs.

As in all tales, it takes suspense before the climax of the happy ending. Well, there it is, this suspense: catches up with us the pandemic reality of a not fully vaccinated planet to which the governments of the rich countries retort by tripling the dose for all adults. It is not considered more reasonable to reserve the booster dose only for people at risk. How will disadvantaged countries fare? And when ? Doesn’t our fate depend on theirs?

The return to normality is therefore not on the horizon, neither here nor elsewhere. It is elsewhere that becomes more worrying. We will go through the umpteenth ordeal despite the small sacrifices imposed and the most modest bombance of this holiday season.
