General practitioners will be on strike Friday October 13. They are asking for an increase in the price of the consultation, ranging from 30 to 50 euros. Meeting with Dr. Thomas Desmarchelier, a striking practitioner.
Dr. Thomas’ patients Desmarchelier are notified, his office will be closed Friday October 13. No consolation for this doctor who chose to strike. Like many general practitioners, he is asking for a significant increase in the price of the consultation. 25 euros for a basic consultation, currently the government has granted an increase of 1.5 euros from November 1st. According to this practitioner, this increase is insufficient. At this price, the profession is no longer attractive.
A renewable strike
Doctors demand at least 30 euros. For certain trade union organizations, it would be necessary to go up to 50 euros. The practitioner believes that his practice is unprofitable. It is impossible for him to currently hire assistants. “To follow 1,000 to 1,500 patients, [j’ai] 3,500 euros per month. […] If I hire a full-time assistant, I will have 1,500 euros left. It’s not economically viable.”deplores Dr. Thomas Desmarchelier. Most patients understand the demands of doctors and consider an increase in the consultation fee legitimate. The strike which begins Friday will be renewable.
