She was seen as “a trap” for the presidential majority. Thursday, October 12, the National Rally (RN) bill aimed at improving the care of women with endometriosis was withdrawn after three hours of discussion in the Assembly. It would probably have been rejected by the lower house of Parliament, due to the hostile positioning of most groups. The far-right deputies, who expected a rejection of this text, denounced the attitude of the other groups in the Hemicycle, who worked to vote against the components of the text.

“This text, which could provide hope for women suffering from endometriosis, is now empty. I therefore withdraw it. It is now useless to think of any progress. I therefore no longer wish us to continue to study it”, announced Emmanuel Taché de la Pagerie around noon. In September, the majority was hesitant about the attitude to adopt towards this text which was relatively consensual in its objectives. The Nupes had refused to vote for it, while the Republicans supported it.

A proposal described as a “feminist caution”

Endometriosis affects some 1.5 to 2.5 million women, in very different ways. This disease results in painful periods, but also sometimes digestive, urinary, lumbar, and leg heaviness… The text of the far-right group intended to grant women suffering from endrometriosis a specific long-term condition status. And “exempt” and allow those who wish to benefit from the status of disabled worker.

In a session peppered with points of order, the groups opposed to the text denounced in turn a recovery operation. “Neither women’s health nor endometriosis will be your feminist guarantee”launched MP Véronique Riotton, from the Renaissance group.
