Blinken arrives in Israel for solidarity visit after Hamas offensive

American Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv on Thursday as a sign of solidarity with Israel five days after the bloody attack launched by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, according to an AFP journalist.

Heightened security measures with guards in military uniform were taken for the visit of Mr. Blinken, who was received at the airport by Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen.

He is due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose country is a close ally of the United States. Washington has already provided additional military aid to Israel since the start of the war triggered by the Hamas offensive from the Gaza Strip.

Before his departure for Israel, Mr. Blinken reiterated his country’s unwavering support for its ally. “The United States supports Israel. We support them today, tomorrow and we will support them every day after,” he told reporters.

“We are determined to ensure that Israel gets everything it needs to defend itself,” he said.
