Electric guitars used by rock legends, such as Kurt Cobain and Eric Clapton, will be auctioned in November in Nashville, Tennessee (United States). Julien’s Auctions, in charge of the sale, presented the instruments to the press on Tuesday October 10. Some have an estimated value of two million dollars (1.8 million euros).
Among the guitars up for sale is Eric Clapton’s Gibson SG nicknamed “The Fool.” It is associated with the singer’s period with the band Cream, in which he produced one of rock’s most distinctive sounds. Its personalized decoration, in psychedelic style, makes it one of the most easily recognizable rock instruments and a symbol of the “Summer of Love” of 1967.
Another instrument up for auction: Kurt Cobain’s left-handed Fender Mustang, used during Nirvana’s last concert in Munich. “We all know Kurt Cobain loved smashing guitars, but the Fender Mustang was his favorite guitar”declared Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien’s Auctions.
The auction will take place at the Hard Rock Café in Nashville from November 16 to 18, 2023. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these two guitars will go to the Kicking the Sitgma association, which fights mental health issues.
