1,000 deaths have now been reported on Sunday, October 8, since the start of the Hamas attack the day before, with 600 on the Israeli side, and 400 on the Palestinian side. Around a hundred hostages are in the hands of Islamists this evening in the Gaza Strip.
Israel’s response has been taking place since Saturday October 7 on its own soil. On the road, 30 km from the border, motorists are caught between two fires. Facing them, Israeli soldiers track down the infiltrated forces. After a night of extreme tension, during which strikes continued on both sides, at daybreak, the scars of the previous day’s clashes were visible.
Bodies of Israeli victims litter the road, buildings are gutted like in Sderot, just 1 km from Gaza, where after hours of struggle with Hamas infiltrators, Israeli forces announced that they had regained control of the local police station.
A “long and difficult” war
The Gazans also woke up to the bombs. In the streets, there is panic in the face of explosions. The victims number in the dozens. In a morgue, bodies of children have been arriving since the morning of Sunday morning, October 8.
All day long, Israeli strikes destroyed entire neighborhoods, civilian homes and also the offices of the Hamas leader. Benyamin Netanyahu warned: the war will be long and difficult, against Hamas but also on its borders, against Hezbollah. This morning, the Lebanese branch of the armed movement claimed to have attacked several Israeli positions.
