“It’s not a big deal, considering the films they make…”

This Saturday October 7, 2023, Emmanuelle Seigner is the guest of Aurélie Casse in C the weekly to promote the play Bungalow 21in which she plays opposite her little sister Mathilde Seigner. Created by Benjamin Castaldi, written by Eric-Emmanuel Schmittthis play features the two Hollywood stars Marilyn Monroe and Simone Signoret, who find themselves in the same hotel on the same evening, and become friends through tumultuous romantic adventures, which they share with Arthur Miller for the first, and Yves Montand for the second.

But quickly, the interview that Emmanuelle Seigner gave to Aurélie Casse led to the legal setbacks encountered by the latter’s nonagenarian husband… Indeed, married for more than thirty years to the controversial filmmaker Roman Polansky, Emmanuelle Seigner chose to defend him, against all odds. Unfortunately for her, her choice is not without consequences, as she revealed on France 5: “I have a lot of offers on the air. Besides, I just made a film with William Dafoe in New York but in France, no, because I made a marriage that bothers some peopleand what’s more, I defended it in a book so… But hey, it suits me very well, given the films they make, it’s not very serious tackled the actress.

Indeed, Emmanuelle Seigner’s French film career seems to have stalled. The last two French films in which Mathilde Seigner’s big sister played are those of her husband Roman Polanski : I accuse in 2019 and Based on a true story in 2017. The last two films of the French star are foreign, since we could find her in the American biopic on Vincent Van GoghAt Eternity’s Gate, in which she played opposite William Dafoe, and in the Irish-South African film Jadotville with Jamie Dornan.

Recall of facts

Roman Polanski has been wanted for almost forty years by the American courts for a case of sexual abuse of a minor, for which he was sentenced to 90 days in prison. Released for good behavior after 42 days, Roman Polanski took the opportunity to leave American soil, but the judge quickly changed his mind and sentenced him again, and this time to an indeterminate sentence. The filmmaker moved to France in January 1978, a country for which he had already obtained nationality in advance. For 45 years now, American justice has refused to close the case, and wishes to hear Roman Polanski, with a view to a trial. Several extraditions have been requested by US justice, in vain. For several years, other women have publicly accused Roman Polanski of sexual violence that occurred in the 1970s and 1980s. Accusations that Roman Polanski formally contested, only recognizing the one for which he was convicted in 1977.
