A fifth straight win for the Golden Knights

Shea Theodore scored two goals and added another in a shootout to lead the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders on Sunday.

Theodore hit the target in the first round of the shootout, after his second goal of the game forced overtime with just 48 seconds left.

Jonathan Marchessault also moved the strings in regulation for the Golden Knights, who posted a fifth straight victory. Nicolas Roy put the needle in the shootout while Robin Lehner stopped 29 shots.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead with just 2:20 left in the third period. He accepted a pass from Oliver Wahlstrom before creating hysteria at UBS Arena.

Brock Nelson and Kieffer Bellows also hit the target for the New York troop. Ilya Sorokin blocked 31 pucks in a losing cause.

The Golden Knights completed the three-game sweep against the New York area teams. They defeated the New Jersey Devils on Thursday and the New York Rangers on Friday.

The Jets beat the Blues 4-2

Line mates Nikolaj Ehlers, Mark Scheifele and Paul Stastny appeared in every Jets goal and the Winnipeg squad defeated the St. Louis Blues 4-2 on Sunday.

Stastny had two goals and one assist, Ehlers had one goal and three assists while Scheifele had one goal and one assist for the Jets, who ended a three-game losing streak.

Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves for the Jets, which were the only Canadian team to play in a game on Sunday, after postponements involving the Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks.

It was interim head coach Dave Lowry’s first victory at the helm of the Jets. He replaced Paul Maurice, who resigned Friday morning.

Vladimir Tarasenko and Niko Mikkola hit the mark for the Blues, who saw their seven-game streak with at least one point come to an end.

Jordan Binnington blocked 30 shots in front of the St. Louis team.

This is the Jets’ last game before at least the end of the Christmas vacation. The NHL announced on Sunday that it was postponing all cross-border clashes involving Canadian teams until December 23.
