Azadeh Kian, professor of political sociology at the University of Paris-cité, specialist in Iran, said Friday October 6 on franceinfo “very, very moved” while the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, currently imprisoned in Iran. This price will have “an impact and will strengthen the resistance of Iranian women”she assures. “Narges Mohammadi is a fighter. She is a woman who, for many years, has been fighting for human rights and women’s rights”she reacted.

>> Iran: one year after the death of Jina Mahsa Amini, “the country remains a pressure cooker” despite the regime’s repressive policy

“This Nobel Prize is there to crown the revolution in progress, Woman, life, freedom” because Narges Mohammadi also represents “these women who are fighting today throughout the country to obtain their rights and to say no to this dictatorial and repressive regime”she continued.

The Nobel committee “hope” that Iran will release Narges Mohammadi. “The hope is that all political prisoners will be released”underlines Azadeh Kian. “Narges Mohammadi has always refused to be released. She has always preferred to stay with the others and tell us what is happening in these prisons of the Islamic regime from the inside”she explained.

According to her, this price is “symbolic”but “Symbols are very, very important.” He will have “an impact and will strengthen the resistance of Iranian women”, she assures. But Azadeh has no illusions: “The regime will remain completely indifferent to this Nobel Peace Prize”she believes.
