“Lovage”, Timber Stamp | The duty

Six years after the tense SincerelyFuture Pollution, here is the group Timber Timbre, led by the dark Taylor Kirk. The musician, who himself says he does not have easy happiness, is focused on Lovageby an almost optimistic wind, musically at least. He abandons a certain electronic approach and coats several pieces with female choirs à la Leonard Cohen. Original, no, effective, most certainly. At times, we come across pure Timber Timbre, like on Sugarland with its ghostly keyboards and bass line typical of the band. But elsewhere we feel a new breeze, like this very piano-bar approach on Mystery Street and almost childish keyboard sounds on Holy Motors. It’s not a revolution, but Lovage allows Kirk — and his new musicians, including director Michael Dubue (The Sadies, Richard Reed Parry) — to broaden the group’s spectrum. A great reunion.
