A strike in the village from Groza, near the town of Kupiansk, in eastern Ukraine, left at least 51 dead, Ukrainian emergency services announced Thursday, October 5. The attack took place around 1:15 p.m. (local time), hitting a food store and a cafe, regional governor Oleg Synegoubov said on Telegram. A 6-year-old boy was among the victims, he added.

“There were residents in a store, and residents in the cafe [voisin] who were also gathered for a ceremony in memory of a deceased villager”, according to Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, published a photo of several people lying on the ground and showing no signs of life. The Ukrainian president denounced “a blatantly brutal Russian crime”.
“Ukraine needs more air defense systems to protect our country from terror”, for his part reacted the Minister of Defense, Roustem Oumerov, after this attack. The UN humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Denise Brown, for her part said “dismayed” by this strike.
