No new Mr or Mrs Brexit in the UK. British Foreign Minister Liz Truss has been appointed to take over post-Brexit files after Secretary of State David Frost resigned on Saturday evening, Downing Street announced on Sunday (December 19th).
The head of diplomacy will lead negotiations with the European Union on the controversial protocol governing specific customs arrangements in Northern Ireland, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement. “Liz Truss will assume ministerial responsibility for relations with the European Union with immediate effect”, they clarified.
A convinced liberal, David Frost criticized Boris Johnson for deviating from these values by increasing taxes and reintroducing certain restrictions in the face of the explosion in the number of Covid-19 cases due to the Omicron variant. His departure also has a personal dimension for Boris Johnson, who had said that there is not the thickness of a “sheet of cigarette paper” between them.
