A German third division match was abandoned on Sunday, December 18, after racist insults launched by a spectator against a player of the visiting team. The two clubs presented a united front.
The match between Duisburg and Osnabrück was stopped by the referee after half an hour of play due to attacks suffered by striker Aaron Opoku. “Opoku suffered racist slurs. Unbelievable. Aaron, we are with you !!! THE NAZIS, OUT,” the Osnabrück club tweeted.

Monkey cries were heard coming from the stands when the player came for a corner, explained match referee Nicolas Winter. The latter sent the teams to the locker room “to take care of the player” after seeing “how shocked he was“.”I told him we were there to protect him“, did he declare.
The offending supporter was identified and removed from the stadium, and Duisburg apologized. On its twitter account, the host club confirmed that the match had been interrupted because “Osnabrück was no longer able to play“.”We completely understand. A bitter afternoon for football in #Duisburg“, he added.
