More than an outstanding journalist and interviewer, Jean-Pierre Elkabbach has been a great witness to public life for half a century. Back on his journey.
He spanned half a century of media and political history: Jean-Pierre Elkabbach, journalist, presenter, channel boss and interviewer. Born in Oran (Algeria) at the end of the 1930s, he covered all the political events of his time, from the election of François Mitterrand in 1981, to that of Emmanuel Macron in 2017. For the French, Jean-Pierre Elkabbach was first of all a unique tone.
A provocative style
His provocative style could sometimes be annoying. In October 1980, on the show Cartes sur table, he received the communist leader Georges Marchais. Jean-Pierre Elkabbach also conducted the last interview with another man on the left, François Mitterrand. On France 2, the former president spoke publicly about his cancer and the end of his life. He ended his career at the microphone of his favorite radio station, Europe 1, where he returned in 2021. He died at the age of 86.
