The new vaccination campaign against Covid-19 has resumed. Today, fewer people die from the disease, which pushes some Internet users to assert that the measures taken three years ago were too restrictive and exaggerated.
“It’s a little music that we hear a lot. Ultimately Covid-19 is not such a dangerous virus”says the journalist Nicolas Carvalho. Today, the disease kills fewer people. “Contrary to what one might think, it is not the variants that are less dangerous. The virus is the same as three years ago. What has changed is us”continues the journalist. “It is not the virus that has become less severe. In the end, the population has changed”explains Etienne Simon-Loriereresponsible at the Pasteur Institute.
Endemic phase
Men are getting used to the virus, but also vaccination coverage which helps reduce serious forms. Covid-19 followed a logical phase: first a pandemic phase when no humans had contracted it. Thanks to the first vaccines, the pandemic was reduced to epidemic peaks. The last stage is the endemic phase, which is similar to that experienced with the Spanish flu 100 years ago. The deaths had stopped thanks to collective immunity.
