Across France, penitentiary centers must cope with new technologies, because prisoners are sometimes delivered via drones. Elements taken into account by the ERIS, special agents in charge for twenty years of the security of prisons and their occupants.
It was a hit operation that evening at Châteaudun prison (Center-Val-de-Loire). The intervention units of the prison administration, the ERISare called in as reinforcements. The objective is to search the isolation area, where the most closely monitored prisoners are located. An agent is responsible for leading them to the site; he is a “pilot fish” in prison jargon. “It’s a maze (the prison)without them, we are lost”, comments an agent ERIS.
Deter trafficking
In the neighborhood ofisolation find half a dozen cells, some occupied by detainees convicted of violence or in terrorism cases. Deterrence requires the balance of power and the effect of surprise. One inmate agrees to leave his cell while the officers have to struggle for several minutes with another. This is the second excavation of this scale in Châteaudun this year. The aim of these random operations is to deter trafficking and to discover prohibited objects in improvised caches.
