“The European Commission made a total mistake by sending the wrong signals” to Azerbaijan, believes Raphaël Glucksmann

“It is the Armenians who pay the price” of our “dependence” and “our weakness”, accuses the MEP.

While more than 100,000 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh have now arrived in Armenia, according to Yerevan, MEP Raphaël Glucksmann believes on Saturday September 30 on franceinfo that we must help “Armenians to defend themselves” and put an end to “our suicidal addiction” Azeri gas. He criticizes the position of the European Commission, “a total mistake”, who sent “signs of our dependence on Aliyev”, the Azerbaijani president. “It is the Armenians who pay the price”he laments.

“France and Europe must be part of history and alongside Armenia,” hammers MEP.

“We are helplessly witnessing ethnic cleansing, the erasure of hundreds of years of history, a people on the move and in need of our help.”

“We must be there for humanitarian aid. But beyond that, we must now be there to protect Armenia”explains the MEP.

“We are sacrificing a people on the altar of necessities that are not even necessary, deplores Raphaël Glucksmann. We can find alternatives to Azerbaijani gas and I believe that here, the European Commission made a complete mistake by sending the wrong signals to Aliyev, by sending signals of our dependence and our weakness.”

Protect Armenia

“Armenians have chosen democracy”underlines the MEP, “They have chosen to be an allied nation of Europe. We have ancestral historical links with Armenia and therefore it is really something extremely important. We must send a very clear message.”

This happens, according to Raphaël Glucksmann, through “a firm condemnation of the policy of the Azerbaijan government. And then it involves increased support for Armenia and a very clear perspective: Armenia, if it continues to choose democracy, will be protected by Europe and will be integrated into the family of European democracies.”
