France experienced its hottest September on record, according to provisional data from Météo-France communicated on Friday September 29 during a press conference. “The month of September was exceptionally hot,” explained the climatologist Christine Berne, specifying that it would be “the hottest ever recorded in mainland France”, while global warming caused by human activities accelerates in France and around the world.

Météo-France estimates thathe average temperature over the month of September will reach 21.5°C, or between 3.5°C and 3.6°C above the average temperature in September over the period 1991-2020.

This exceptionally hot September comes after another abnormal summer. According to a previous report from Météo-France, summer 2023 June, July, August according to meteorologists was the fourth hottest measured in France. France and Corsica experienced a cool spell at the beginning of August, but they were especially affected by a late heat wave at the end of August, which saw absolute temperature records broken.
