In this plan of 42 measures unveiled Friday to deal with the violence suffered by caregivers, several measures concern the security of buildings, according to information collected by France Inter.

Faced with the violence suffered by caregivers in France, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Health, Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, presents on Friday September 29 her plan for the safety of healthcare professionals: 42 measures to reverse the trend, resulting from the recommendations prepared by two doctors commissioned by the minister.

According to information collected by France Inter, several measures concern building security. Video surveillance cameras will be installed near health establishments. The State’s financial support for the construction of future healthcare centers will now be conditional in the specifications of future establishments on taking into account issues surrounding building safety.

Another measure: improve the flow of patients in hospitals to empty waiting rooms, and thus hope to reduce the exasperation, even aggressiveness, of patients. The plan also provides for the State to finance alert devices for the most exposed caregivers, such as a button, hidden in a pocket or bracelet, to activate if necessary.

“I think the major reminder for me is zero tolerance. And when I say zero tolerance, it means that any verbal slippage must be condemned both verbally, sometimes more if it gets out of hand”, specifies the minister. An offense of contempt against health professionals will be the subject of a legislative text which will be discussed in Parliament in the coming weeks.

Nearly 20,000 reports recorded last year

The government is also focusing on raising awareness among the general public with a major campaign launched in early 2024, without forgetting the training of caregivers on these issues of violence. Agnès Firmin Le Bodo believes that it “There are already training courses on the management of aggression. The idea is that from the start of 2024, we can offer these training courses, which, I believe having discussed it with many professionals, are also an expectation from them”.

According to figures from the National Observatory of Violence in Healthcare, nearly 20,000 reports were recorded last year.
