Sainte-Dorothée neighborhood in Laval | Water can now be used for hygiene purposes

Water can now be used “for hygiene purposes” in the Sainte-Dorothée district, in Laval, either for showers or to wash hands for example. However, water consumption is still not recommended, but further analyzes are expected in the evening.

This is what the City of Laval indicated in a brief press release at the end of the day, Thursday, maintaining that “the notice of non-use is now a notice of non-consumption” in the Sainte- Dorothy.

However, citizens are asked to flush their pipes before reusing the water. Instructions are available on the municipality website.

For now, water can be used, but only “for hygiene purposes (bathing, showering, hand washing, etc.),” the administration clarified. “This precaution is necessary given the maneuvers carried out on the network in recent days, until more in-depth test results are obtained to confirm that the water can be consumed again,” we explain. .

Conclusive tests have in fact demonstrated that the chemical product in question, which was used by firefighters, “is in the process of being completely eliminated in the municipal pipes of the aqueduct network”.

For the past few days, the City has been treating this event “as contamination by chemicals. “It is not a product that is toxic. It presents risks [pour la santé] very moderate. But we prefer to act preventively,” explained Laval’s head of public affairs, Philippe Déry.
