The Hurricanes easily beat the Kings

Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jesper Fast both had a goal and an assist to guide the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night.

Brett Pesce, Teuvo Teravainen and Jack Drury also hit the mark for the Hurricanes, who have won for the sixth time in their last seven outings.

Brady Skjei prepared two goals for the Hurricanes. Frederik Andersen stopped 32 shots to increase his career record against the Kings to 10-1-3.

The North Carolina Troop have won both games since their roster was changed due to COVID-19 protocols. His two best scorers and his captain were absent on Saturday.

Blake Lizotte hit the target late in the second period, in his second game since missing five due to virus protocols.

Jonathan Quick made 28 saves for the Kings, who lost in regulation for the first time in their last five games. Quick had helped his team get at least one point in their last six starts (4-0-2).

The Senators beaten in overtime by the Flyers

Travis Sanheim scored at 1:35 in overtime and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-3 on Saturday.

From the enclave, Sanheim redirected Cam Atkinson’s short pass.

Claude Giroux, Oskar Lindblom and Joel Farabee signed the other goals for the Flyers, who have lost just once in their last five games.

Giroux joined Bill Barber as second in Flyers scoring history with 883 points. He leads the club with 25 points in 2021-22.

Martin Jones repelled 28 shots, being beaten by Artem Zub, Tim Stützle and Alex Formenton. Anton Forsberg blocked 34 pucks.

Ottawa will play again Tuesday night at home, against St. Louis.

Red Wings beat Devils 5-2

Dylan Larkin recorded first NHL hat trick

Dylan Larkin recorded a first hat trick in the NHL and the Detroit Red Wings beat the New Jersey Devils 5-2 on Saturday night.

Tyler Bertuzzi added two goals for the Red Wings, which saw Thomas Greiss repeal 32 shots in the win. Larkin also got an assist.

Michael McLeod and Dawson Mercer replied for the Devils, who suffered a fifth straight loss. In his second career start, Akira Schmid stopped 26 pucks.

Larkin opened the scoring with 4:21 remaining in the first period. Filip Hronek sent the disc into Devils territory and he made a capricious leap to allow Larkin to hit the target.

McLeod tied the game with less than a minute to go in the first period. His shot foiled Greiss over the right shoulder.

Larkin completed his hat trick in the second period. He scored two goals, interspersed with that of Bertuzzi.

Mercer moved the shorthanded strings to bring the Red Wings closer to 4-2, but Bertuzzi sealed the outcome with his 12th goal of the season.
