After the president, it is the turn of the treasurer of the White Collar Union of the City of Montreal to resign, amid allegations of embezzlement.
The largest municipal union in Quebec announced on Monday the departure of its financier Maryse Picard, the accusation of having authorized loans and irregular expenses of President Guylaine Dionne.
In less than two years, Mme Dionne allegedly borrowed $40,000 from the organization (officially called Syndicat des civil servants de Montréal) and made $52,000 in personal expenses with the approval of her fellow treasurer.
Mme Picard “hid, on numerous occasions, from the members of the executive committee and the members of the finance committee […] the loans that she granted on at least 17 occasions to G. Dionne and the personal expenses of G. Dionne that she agreed to pay on around twenty occasions,” lamented the union in an email, repeating the conclusions of ‘an expert report.
“Maryse Picard was suspended with pay on July 28 during the investigation,” the organization continued. “In light of the work of the forensic accountant, on September 5, the union executive adopted a resolution asking Mr.me Picard to resign. On September 11, the union received a letter of resignation from Ms.me Picard. »
The union has also launched a civil lawsuit to recover the lost funds.
“All means are and will be taken to assert the rights of the union as well as to claim the amounts owed. This includes the complaint filed against her at the SPVM on August 9,” declared interim president Patrick Dubois.
