at least 20 dead and more than 280 injured in fuel depot explosion, separatists say

This explosion comes at a time when more than 13,000 refugees have arrived in Armenia. They are fleeing the arrival of Azerbaijani troops in Nagorno-Karabakh, a separatist region located in western Azerbaijan.

In the midst of an exodus of thousands of civilians fleeing the arrival of Azerbaijani troops, the explosion of a fuel depot in the separatist region of Nagorno-Karabakh on Monday, left at least 20 dead and more than 280 injured, announced Tuesday September 26 the separatist authorities in a new assessment. The first reported at least 200 injured on Monday.

“Unfortunately, the lives of seven patients could not be saved, they died in hospital. Dozens of patients are still in critical condition. Thirteen unidentified bodies were transferred to the forensic office”, announced the separatist authorities. They also haverequested urgent external assistance to deal with this disaster.

This explosion takes place in a heavy context Nagorno-Karabakh. More than 13,000 refugees fleeing the region have arrived in Armenia, according to the Armenian government, almost a week after the launch of an Azerbaijani offensive and the capitulation of separatists in this disputed enclave of western Azerbaijan, which has 120,000 inhabitants, mainly of Armenian origin and language.
