Earthquake in the Montreal region

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurred Sunday at 8:04 p.m. in the Montreal region. Earthquakes Canada reports that there have been “no reports of damage, and none are expected.”

The federal agency reports that the event was “slightly felt in Montreal, Longueuil, Mascouche [et] Repentigny. The epicenter of the earthquake was northeast of Montreal at a depth of 10 km.

Several Internet users reacted, testifying to having felt the earth shaking, but not reporting any material damage.

According to Earthquakes Canada, tremors of this magnitude are generally little or not felt and rarely cause damage. Several tremors of this kind have occurred in recent years, without notable consequences.
