After the cows, wild boars on the loose!

After the unusual story of cows on the run in St-Sévère at the end of 2022, wild boars have fled in the Yamachiche sector in Mauricie.

Maxime Descôteaux, founder of the Cécropia Refuge, explains that the wild boars on the run were some that came from illegal breeding.

“Since 2018, owners of livestock farms have had to identify their animals, and these two have no identification,” he explains. “It’s difficult to know who is responsible for this leak.”

The two animals have still not been captured, but have been seen several times since last weekend.

“We had 17 calls concerning the Yamachiche wild boars,” says Mr. Descôteaux. “We act as a call center to help the ministry which receives wild animals, but we cannot accept wild boars.”

The wild boar does not represent a danger to humans, says Mr. Descôteaux. However, he points out that these are wild animals and that it is better to stay away from them and “never try to corner them”.

“If we fail our capture, the animal will learn and will fear humans and capture cages,” explains the founder of the shelter.
