Listening to the second microalbum Hideaway — the first was published last January — we measure the progress made by the young duo Mayfly since their participation in the Francouvertes in 2021. In two years, Charlie Kunce and Emma Cochrane have refined their sound, between pop and neo-R&B songs, tightened the bolts of their musical productions, anchoring the electronic orchestrations to rhythms inspired by trap, particularly on this Volume IIwhich does not contain the kind of grooves dancing heard on the first. Incredible melancholics, Charlie and Emma combine their sweet voices to sing to us about impossible loves, in English on FUin French on Lost cause, this one coated with pretty string orchestrations. Between the excellent No Patience After Dark, with its almost lugubrious trap rhythm in the opening, and the stripped soul ballad Sad That Ur a Fantasy, Mayfly expands its musical and emotional register. A project already well underway that we will see on stage at the Phi Center on October 4.
