The mayor of Colmar, in Haut-Rhin, Eric Straumann, denounced Monday September 18 to France Bleu Alsace a “excess mortality of fish” in the waters of the Lauch River, in his town, after an action on Saturday by environmental activists.

Activists from the Extinction Rebellion movement threw green dye into the river to denounce the permanent burial of toxic waste at the Stocamine site in Wittelsheim. The mayor indicates that he plans to file a complaint.

Mayor Eric Straumann has noted, since this action, a “excess mortality of fish” : “I thought it would go away quickly, that’s far from the case, we still have this green color widely present”he explains.

On Saturday, Extinction Rebellion assured that this dye, called fluorescein, is completely harmless to living beings. “I am told that this product is not toxic, but perhaps this dye caused an increase in water temperature”points out the chosen one.
