In Germany, some cities have decided to offer transport tickets to those who give up their vehicles. Journalist Thibaud de Barbeyrac, live from Berlin, Monday September 18, explains how it works.

Some German cities offer free transport tickets to those who give up their vehicles. “It all started on May 1st with what the Germans call the Germany Ticket. This is a subscription for public transport.recalls journalist Thibaud from Barbeyraclive from Berlin, Monday September 18.

“It is very expensive”

“Some cities, as Lübeck, which is a city at the forefront of ecological problems, or Bonn and Dortmund, have decided to implement a slightly more original program. You give your driving license to the town hall, and in exchange, you are offered the Germany Ticket. You don’t even pay 49 euros per month for it”indicates the journalist. “The problem is that it is very expensive for communities, many of which already have financial problems. Result : these programs are very limited in number. In some cities, it’s limited for those over 75, and in others, it’s limited to 100 or 200 people per month.”concludes the journalist.
